Our U-16 team maintained their unbeaten league run with a 2-7 to 1-6 victory over Strokestown. A half time lead of 4 points didn’t seem enough facing a very strong wind in the second half. However, after falling behind mid-way through the half, the Dominic’s team, driven on by an outstanding half back line, produced a magnificent last fifteen minutes to hold out for a deserved victory. Our next game is in the Championship against Tulsk on Wednesday week 16th April at 7.00pm. Training takes place on Tuesday from 7-8 pm.
Our U-14 Footballers played the Feile Quarter Final against Clan na Gael on Saturday last in Knockcroghery. Despite a Gael force wind, both Teams produced a very competative and entertaining game of Football. Clan led at the break by 2 points and despite Dominics best efforts Clan held on to that Margin in the second half and they now progress to the County Semi-Final. Dominics wish a speedy recovery to Eoin Galvin one of our star Players who sustained a broken arm in the drawn game.
Please note that if you are not already registered contact your Secretary or any of your Trainers.
St. Dominics returned to winning ways on Sunday with a hard fought victory over home side Tulsk.
St. Dominics started well and played some open football with debutant Daniel Beirne slotting over two hard earned points. However, hesitancy in defence towards the end of the half allowed Tulsk to goal just before half time on a scoreline of 0-6 to 1-3.
Again, in the second half, Tulsk got an early goal from an error and allowed them to creep in front but St. Dominics started to play some wonderful football with Conor Fallon and Tomas Gilleran scoring. The move of the match followed Arthur Beades found Conor Fallon and he in turn threaded the ball through to Tomas Gilleran in a "3 on 2" situation. Eventually the ball found its way to Declan Brennan who finished with ease. Another point for Gilleran gave St. Dominics a deserved win but again, they were caught out in defence when a speculative shot landed in the net to leave the winning margin of 4 points 1-13 to 3-3. Best for St. Dominics were Padraig Naughton, Trevor Brennan, and Daniel Beirne.
St. Croans are our next opponents at 6:30 next Saturday in Knockcroghery.
