St. Dominics grabbed top spot in the O'Gara Cup thanks to this victory over Clan na Gael B team on Saturday evening. Michael Finneran opened the scoring in the first minute with a free before Clan levelled. A point from Ultan Kelly after Conor Fallon had picked him out put the home side back in front and they never relinquished the lead. Conor Fallon then stepped up and hit 1-4, the goal was particularly impressive after a 30 yard run.
At half time, the score stood at 1-7 to 0-4. St. Dominics took their foot off the pedal in the second half and allowed Clan na Gael back into the game. Mark Miley made some early errors but balanced these with a top class save when the defence came under pressure. Padraig O'Connor was excellent at centre back while Conor Fallon showed his class with scores off both feet. With four weeks to go to the Championship the Whelan Quarries sponsored team is shaping up nicely.
