Sunday 25th Nov Overall Executive A.G.M.
Our Minor Ladies put in a great performance on Sunday Morning last when overcoming a very strong St Croans side in the Semi-Final of the Minor “B” Championship. This was a very close encounter all through with only one point in it at half time and the similar margin again with just one minute left in the Game when a great Dominic’s move ended with a Goal and a Four point Victory which earned a place in the Final in a Fortnights time. We play either Oran or St Kevins in the Final. Training will take place this Friday evening from 7 to 7.45pm.
GOLF SOCIETY ANNUAL WEEKEND
Our Annual Captains (Vincent Pierse) weekend away took place in Donegal Town at the Weekend. On Friday 30 Members played the Picturesque Donegal course and on Saturday 36 played cheered on by a very knowledgeable Gallery of wives, Girlfriends and acquaintances. The beautiful Sunshine Weather made this Club Social all the more enjoyable. Base camp was set up at the friendly Abbey Hotel in Donegal Town. Fridays Golf was played in a very relaxed atmosphere with the Four ball winners been Denis o Brien and Donie Naughton and Marina Dolan winning the singles. Liam Murphy picked up the “Spot the Ball Trophy” but admitted later that his comments regarding the selection process were wide of the mark. Saturday’s golf was very keenly contested but play was delayed for over an hour as two astronomy Ireland officials checked out a reported sighting of a rare “Short Rainbow” but this was later discovered to be an unusual cap worn by one of the Players. Asked later if this could result in a points deduction for the Player Eddie Miley said it was a very grey area. The Gala Dinner took place on Saturday night in the Abbey Hotel.Eddie Miley was the excellent M.C. but was a bit taken aback when from the ajoining Function room Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny emerged to compliment the Society on their success and after posing for a photograph with the overawed Padraig Tracey (futher poster potential) stated that Golf and Politics were very similar in that both were about who pulled the most strokes. The first presentation of the Night was a lighted Cake to John Naughton who celebrated his Birthday on the Day,if he had as many points as candles on the Day he would have been the clear winner. Eddie then presented the Winners with their Prizes (see results below) and the overall Winner was Michael Dolan. In his acceptance speech he thanked Vincent for been an excellent captain for the Year and to all the Officers who organised the outings throughout the Year. He said he was delighted to win the beautiful electric lamp but wondered would he be able to bring it home as the flex looked rather short. Outgoing Captain Vincent Pierse spoke of a very enjoyable and successful year,he thanked all the Members and Partners who attended, the Officers of the society especially Secretary Eddie Miley and Treasurer Kevin Rogers who incidently was the only one with full coverage on the Night, the Sponsors of the Raffle prizes on the Night-Abbey Hotel,Tony Coyne,Joe McCarthy,Michael o Connor,Frank Grehan and Marian Dolan and also Albert o Connor who organised the trip to Portugal this Year. He thanked his family for their support throughout the Year and then announced that the incoming Captain for 2008 was the very popular Padraig Derven. Eddie Miley then brought proceedings to a close by making a small presentation to Fr Michael Donnelly who made a special effort to be present both Daye despite his very busy schedule.
