INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
We are back in to another Intermediate Final following a one point victory over St Croans on Sunday last in Castlerea. This encounter was not a pretty sight,a game full of basic mistakes, no pattern to the play from either side and two score shy sets of forwards.Dominics will need to improve 90% if they are to Capture the Intermediate Final where Glaveys will now be hot Favourites. The Dominics defence did play well and they had to as the Play was in their area for most of the Game but midfield and the forward line will have to get a much better understanding and take a more direct route to Goal. However the Players are there and if John McGowan can get a more direct approach to the style of Play then maybe all is not yet lost.We play Elphin in the O Rourke Cup on Sunday next in Knockcroghery at 12 o Clock.
Training continues Monday & Wednesday at 8pm
St. Dominics old failings returned again as they just managed to hang on
against a dogged St. Croans team on Sunday evening. Playing with the
wind in the first half, St. Dominics spurned two clearcut opportunities,
to goal. First a super ball from Tomas Gilleran found Fallon with only
the keeper to beat but he fumbled and was penalised for over carrying. A
few muinutes later, Gilleran himself was the culprit when he hit the
side netting albeit from a narrow angle. A couple of other chances
appeared but it seemd as though St. Dominics would win easily when they
converted one of these.
However it never materialised and at the break, St. Dominics were ahead
by 6 points to three - a dissappointing return and St. Croans must have
relished their chances. However they failed to create enough chances in
a dour second period, indeed St. Dominics had more shots on goal  - all
the more unbelievable given that they failed to score for 28 minutes of
the 2nd half.
When they went 0-7 to 0-5 ahead going into injury time, you could
forgive Croans for looking for goal, but they played intelligently and
converted a 14 yard free to reduce the defecit. Their patience was
almost rewarded when a shot came off the crossbar but overall, St.
Dominics , despite playing poorly were the better team. Tom Gately and
Padraig Mulally wee impressive in defence while upfront Tomas Gilleran
and the hard working Niall Naughton did well.
There is huge room for improvement and we need to be firing on all
cylinders to defeat Michael Glaveys in the county final.

Our U-12 Team have Qualified for the County Final for the fourth Year in a row having defeated Eire Og on Sunday Morning last.We will play Western Gaels in the Final on this Saturday 29th Sept in Hyde Park at 4pm.Dominics have won Div 2 for the past two Years and Div 3 the previous Year and to reach the Final again this Year is a huge achivement for both the Club underage structure and Manager Willie Doyle who has been at the u-12 helm for the past 4 Years. Our U-10 Team have won the Oran Tournament ,our U-14 Team are Div 1 Champions and if this U-12 Team were to Win it would be one of the most successful Years at Underage Football in the Clubs history. We would encourage as many as possible to come out ant support this Team on Sat next.

U-14 FOOTBALL

Our u-14 Team lost out narrowly in the League Final on Friday last in Oran to a strong Michael Glaveys side.Dominics were very slow to start and found themselves 5 pts down after ten minutes but to their credit fought back and were level at the break.Injuries to three key players seen a major reshuffle for the second half and this was to tell on our lads in the end with the physically stronger Glaveys side gainind the upperhand in the final five minutes and holding out for a deserved two point victory.Dominics did try hard and had the chances to win but did not have the bit of luck on the Day.Never the less this was a great Year for our lads having won the Div 1 Championship and finishing top of the League Table and beat every Team at some stage juring the Season. These are a very talented group of Players and the future of St Dominics looks good if they stick together and develop their skills. The Presentation of the Championship Medals will take place in the near future and all Players will be notified by letter.Again on behalf of the Club congratulations to this great bunch of Players, their Managenent Team, and to all the Parents and Supporters over the Year.
